Technician Branch
Representative
Technicians are vital to the field of laboratory animal science by providing
compassionate care for animals used in biomedical research. AALAS is
committed to these technicians and strives to bring them quality professional
growth opportunities and the recognition they deserve as an essential part of
the research team.
To
provide awareness of and professional development, National AALAS established
the
Committee on Technician Awareness & Development
(CTAD)
CTAD
functions are to:
-
Establish initiatives at AALAS specifically geared to enhance technicians
roles;
-
Recognize technicians as one of the most important assets of the national
organization;
-
Develop technician programs and encourage participation at the AALAS
National meeting;
-
Encourage technicians to take an active role in all AALAS activities,
meetings and publication at the national, district and branch levels;
-
Identify issues, laws, organizations and activities affecting technicians in
laboratory animal science.
AALAS branches are also looking out for the welfare of technicians. They
have officers or positions known as Technician Branch Representatives (TBRs) and
Assistant TBRs. The TBR is a critical link between National AALAS Office
and the AALAS Branch Members. TBRS disseminate information from the AALAS
National Office to the branch members they represent, and vice versa.
TBR's work closely with
the AALAS Committee on Technician Awareness &
Development (CTAD) and AALAS Staff to:
-
Share technician activities, ideas and suggestions with other AALAS branches
and the AALAS National office. Help, technicians, promote biomedical
research on a local level;
-
Provide technicians with professional opportunities and strategies at the
local, district and national levels;
-
Encourage technician participation in AALAS at the local and national level;
-
Request technicians' articles for AALAS publications;
-
Maintain regular contact with other TBRs, the CTAD, and the AALAS national
office via branch leadership and TechLink electronic listserves.
Every AALAS Branch shall appoint/elect a TBR to serve as liaison between the
AALAS branches and the AALAS national office.
Assistant TBRs shall be appointed in Branches with multiple facilities and/or
wide geographic areas.
TBRs
and Assistant TBRs shall be AALAS National Members.
It
is recommended that Branches appoint/elect their TBRs for a 3 year, renewable
term
It
is strongly recommended that TBRs have internet/email access or provide
alternate methods of communication with their respective CTAD representative.
Each district has a CTAD
representative that is your main connection to the AALAS national office. Your
rep is there to answer questions and give you guidance. Please feel free to
contact him/her whenever you need anything (even when you don't -- just call to
say "hi"!) The only way the networking can work is for all parties to stay in
touch with each other. Your CTAD rep should be contacting you on a regular basis
and will periodically call on you for information on various things.
