This scientist will support ongoing contracted research efforts in the Oncology, Pharmacology and Toxicology fields. Will perform animal and pharmacokinetic studies including processing samples, data analysis, assisting with SOP development and study reports as well as validating new protocols. Requirements include Ph.D. degree in an appropriate biological discipline, such as: biology, biological sciences, biochemistry, physiology, or pharmaceutical sciences, with 2-5 years of experience in a physiology/pharmacology related laboratory environment. Position requires a direct animal handling experience. Background in multiple therapeutic areas and hands-on experience with in-vivo models highly desirable. Must be organized with good communication skills, observant and detail oriented. Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities needed. Team player with excellent work ethic, comfortable with rapid study timelines. Also must be proficient with MS Excel/Word/Powerpoint. The Department of Comparative Medicine,
The Department
consists of a 36,000 ft. sq. AAALAC Int. accredited facility housing
zebrafish, mice, rats, hamsters, rabbits, pigs, and dogs. An intensive
large animal surgical program is supported by a large Core Surgical
Facility with 5 surgical suites and 9 surgical stations.
The facility is
staffed by one veterinarian, five veterinary technicians, 14 animal
husbandry technicians, three administrative staff, and one GLP
Compliance Coordinator.
Veterinary
Technician responsibilities include: clinical rounds and physical
examination, animal quarantine and conditioning, administration of
medications (IV, IM, SQ, PO, IP) to all species, sentinel rodent program
(including euthanasia, necropsy and specimen collection), Diagnostic
Laboratory procedures (blood and fecal analysis, shipping of samples to
reference laboratory), Core Surgery support (animal anesthesia and
transport, anesthesia monitoring, equipment set-up and facility upkeep,
instrument sterilization, post-operative recovery of patients),
oversight of rodent breeding colonies, clinical record creation,
pharmaceutical inventory and ordering, researcher teaching and training,
billing for services and other duties as assigned.
Minimum
Job Requirements/Competences:
Completion of an

Job
Competencies preferred:
Certification or
eligibility for certification by AALAS at the Assistant Technician,
