The purpose of this contest is to help identify and recognize students who can demonstrate superior understanding of the scientific process used in research, the importance of the use of animals in the medical and biological sciences, and who can artfully communicate that understanding in writing.
All entries are judged on the basis of scientific accuracy, logic, originality, creativity, command of the English language and an understanding of the scientific process and the importance of use of animals in research.

The topic of the essay is: "How Has Biomedical Research Using Animals Benefited a Pet, You, or Someone You Know?" All high school students in public, private and parochial schools are eligible, providing they will be 16 years of age by the start of the summer internship. Entries must be postmarked by March 13, 2009. |
Submit essays in standard English with a bibliography that must cite several different references (you may include documented oral sources). Essays should be typed on 8 1/2 x 11 white paper, double-spaced and not to exceed 750 words. All submissions become the property of SwAEBR and may be altered prior to publication.
